The European Identity and Cloud Conference (EIC) 2024, Europe’s largest conference on digital identity, will be held this year at the bcc Berlin Congress Center. Over 1,500 attendees will gather to discuss a wide range of topics, including the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
I am excited to announce that I will be delivering a keynote speech on the first evening, the prime time slot, alongside Markus Sabbadello from Danube Tech, who is also a steering committee member of the Decentralized Identity Foundation. Our session is titled “Les Miserables of the Cyber Frontier: The Dueling Narratives of Decentralized Identities.” This intriguing title was chosen by the organizers, and we are taking a novel approach by leaving the exact content as a surprise until the event.
Originally, this session was planned as a follow-up to last year’s discussion on the “Fallacy of Decentralization,” where Markus was to propose potential solutions. However, during a conversation with Joerg Resch, the conference’s content director, I mentioned another idea in a different context, titled “Miserable Society and the Identity Systems.” Joerg liked this concept so much that the session’s title was changed, while the content remained the same.
The discussion will delve into how truly decentralized today’s “decentralized” projects are, the journey to this point, and what the future holds. Markus Sabbadello and I, as pioneers in digital identity, will explore these topics through our dialogue.
During a preliminary meeting last Thursday, Markus humorously asked, “So, how do we tie this title into our talk?” This added an element of suspense and excitement about how our session will unfold.
